White dry
Frontonio La Loma y Los Santos Valdejalón 2023 is one of Bodegas Frontonio's most ambitious white wines, created from old Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca vines. The wine is born in two exceptional plots, La Loma and Los Santos, whose calcareous and shale soils and the highland climate give it exceptional tension, minerality and longevity. Produced in small quantities, it reflects Fernando Mora MW's ambition to revive the potential of this historic region.
The bouquet reveals notes of white peaches, quince, citrus peels and white flowers, which are complemented by fennel, rosemary, anise and delicate nuances of chalk and sea salt.
The wine is concentrated, but fresh. The bright acidity is perfectly matched with the creamy texture that comes from the long aging, while the citrus, yellow fruit and salty mineral accents create an impressive balance. The aftertaste is long, complex and elegant, with a slight hint of lemon cream and ginger.
The grapes are grown at an altitude of 480-610 meters above sea level in the La Loma and Los Santos vineyards. The over 50-year-old vines are rooted in calcareous clay and shale soils, which ensure low yields and help to produce concentrated berries with an excellent balance of acidity and minerality.
The wine is fermented in concrete tanks by spontaneous fermentation, and then aged for about 12-13 months in 500 and 900 liter oak barrels (part of the Macabeo is also stored in a concrete egg).
Serve at a temperature of 10-12 °C. It is recommended to combine with: grilled white fish, seafood, lobster, poultry dishes seasoned with butter sauce, aged goat cheeses or refined Mediterranean cuisine.
The white 2023 La Loma & Los Santos, containing some 60% Macabeo and 40% Garnacha Blanca, fermented in concrete and matured in 500- and 900-liter oak barrels, with some Macabeo in concrete egg, for 13 months. This has to be the finest vintage of this white; it's a year with more tension and is very expressive and nuanced, with notes of dry yellow flowers and pollen. It is finessed, beautifully textured and velvety, with volume, sapidity and electricity, and it is crunchy and citrusy, with a salty twist in the finish. This should age nicely in bottle. 4,032 bottles were filled in July 2025.
This has aromas of peaches, white flowers and a saline touch. The palate is harmonious, with a chiseled profile and linearity that follow through to a saline finish. A blend of macabeo and garnacha blanca from two vineyards. Fermented in cement and aged in Austrian and French oak. Drink or hold.
"Bodegas Frontonio" is a project by Master of Wine (MW) Fernando Morra, born from the desire to reveal the uniqueness of Aragon region wines. "Bodegas Frontonio" is located in the Aragon region, which encompasses appellations such as Valdejalon, Campo de Borja, Calatayud, and Somontano. Many people have barely heard of them, but it is believed that the 'Garnacha' variety (known as 'Grenache' in France) originated from these areas. Therefore, it is not surprising that in these appellations we can find many old 'Garnacha' vines. Fernando Morra initiated the creation of the "Mondo Garnacha" winemakers' group, whose goal is to preserve and nurture old vines, expressing the best qualities of 'Garnacha' wines. In the Valdejalon IGP appellation, the oldest surviving vines were planted in the 1890s! Luis Gutierrez (Robert Parker's Wine Advocate reviewer), reviewing 'Garnacha' wines from Aragon, Navarra, and several other areas around the "Frontonio" winery, wrote simply and unequivocally: "This time, Frontonio wines are the ones that show the most significant progress compared to previous vintages. Each year the wine gets better."
Wine Style
"Bodegas Frontonio" wine is expressive, with exceptional balance, perfectly revealing the terroir of the vineyards.
Prestigious Vineyards
The winery owns prestigious vineyards, acquired since the 1890s. Among them stand out:
They are complemented by lesser-known but characteristic vineyards of the Aragon region.
Aging and Consumption Period
"Bodegas Frontonio" wines are aged to highlight the best qualities of the vineyards. The wines are aged in both oak barrels and other vessels, depending on the wine style. For this reason, "Bodegas Frontonio" wines are flexible – they can be enjoyed both young and aged.
