Description

G.D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba 2025 is a classic example of the Piedmontese Barbera variety, combining fruity liveliness, elegant structure and the precision characteristic of the Vajra family. The wine is born from several different high-altitude plots around the Barolo and Alba areas, so its character combines both bright acidity and red berry freshness, as well as richer, mineral nuances.

The aroma reveals notes of black cherries, blackberries, plums, dried strawberries and hibiscus blossoms, complemented by subtle accents of dried herbs, tobacco, sweet spices and graphite.

The wine is juicy, lively and multi-layered. Bright, yet precisely integrated acidity gives it freshness and gastronomic versatility, while soft tannins allow it to maintain an elegant texture. The aftertaste retains notes of black berries, licorice, anise and mineral. Despite its youthful fruitiness, the wine has structure and can successfully mature for several years.

The grapes are harvested from different terroirs around the villages of Barolo, Novello and Sinio. The calcareous soils of Tortona provide aromatic lightness and freshness, while the clayier layers of Helvetio provide more concentration, darker fruitiness and structure. The higher altitude of the vineyards and the cool nights allow the berries to ripen more slowly, preserving acidity and aromatic precision.

Fermentation takes place separately by plot, usually for 15-20 days, and maturation lasts about a year - mostly in stainless steel tanks, with some stored in larger oak tanks.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 16-18°C with: roast beef or pork stew, lamb cutlets, pizza with meat toppings such as prosciutto or salsiccia (Italian sausage), risotto with mushrooms, mature Italian cheeses such as Pecorino, Parmigiano Reggiano or Gorgonzola.

About brand

The Vajra family has farmed Bricco delle Viole, the highest cru in Comune di Barolo, since the 1880s. At the young age of fifteen, Aldo Vajra embraced the dream to revive his family legacy. Displaying a vision and commitment belying his young age he took over the estate in 1968, turning a new page.Aldo soon acquired the first organic certification of the region (1971), created private biotype selections (selezioni massali) of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto, pioneered the renaissance of Freisa, a noble yet forgotten local grape (1980) and the cultivation of Rhine Riesling in Piemonte (1985).Today, the Vajra family continues the vineyard research focusing on the influence of soil and climate change. The winery is trail-blazing the rediscovery of Chiaretto di Nebbiolo and the wines of the 17th century – long before Barolo was created - through two limited-production wines: “N.S. della Neve” (a champagne-method rosé nature) and “Claré JC”, a partial whole-cluster fermentation of pure Nebbiolo.High elevation vineyards are a unique factor to the Vajra wines, for their ability to express finesse and remarkable complexity over power
