Sigalas Mavrotragano Cyclades 2023 is a rich red wine from the island of Santorini, Greece. It is crafted from 100% Mavrotragano grapes, harvested from the producer’s own vineyards as well as selected sites across the island, where the vines range from 10 to 60 years in age.
Deep ruby in color, the wine’s aroma is dominated by cherry notes, complemented by hints of tobacco, caramel, and cloves, with subtle herbal nuances in the background. On the palate, it is rich, expansive, and expressive, leading to a long, fruit-forward finish.
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Fermentation takes place in open 500-liter wooden vats and stainless steel tanks, involving an extended period of maceration at controlled temperatures. The wine is aged for 12 months—primarily in used 500-liter French oak barrels—with periodic stirring of the lees.
Residual sugar content: 3.7 g/l.
Serve at 16–18 °C. Recommended pairings include braised lamb, roasted beef, rich Mediterranean dishes, and aged cheeses.
