Kristallglasfabrik Spiegelau GmbH, or the Spiegelau glass factory, was first mentioned as far back as 1521. In the 16th century, it began producing mirrors for royal families, and around 1845, decorative snuff bottles. In 1911, the factory was modernised and expanded, and in 1926, owner Fritz Pretzfelder registered the name that still exists to this day. Since 2004, Spiegelau has belonged to the world-renowned glassware name — Riedel.
