Antech Blanquette de Limoux Reserve Extra-Brut

Description

This sparkling wine originates from the Limoux region in France – one of the coolest areas in the Languedoc. The influence of the mountain climate and the limestone-clay soil create ideal conditions for the grapes to preserve their natural acidity and aromatic purity. The base of the beverage consists of 'Mauzac' grapes, considered the historical heart of the 'Blanquette' style, which impart a characteristic apple-like freshness and distinct minerality to the wine.

In the glass, aromas of green apples, lemon zest, white flowers, and fresh pears unfold, harmoniously complemented by subtle notes of brioche and wet stone. On the palate, this 'Extra Brut' category wine is completely dry, crisp, and exceptionally refreshing. Fine, elegant bubbles create a light texture, while the vibrant, precise acidity is accompanied by apple and citrus accents with an expressive limestone line. The finish is extremely dry and precise, with a pleasant and subtle hint of salinity.

The beverage is produced using the traditional method: secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle, aging the wine on its fine lees without the use of excessive dosage.

Serving recommendations

It is recommended to serve well-chilled at 6–8 °C. It is perfect as a refreshing aperitif and pairs ideally with fresh oysters, light seafood appetizers, white fish, and goat cheeses.

About brand

Antech, based in the Limoux appellation in Languedoc, entered the world of sparkling wine after 1931, when Edmond Antech joined the family business through marriage. Over the past decades, the estate has steadily strengthened its position by focusing exclusively on sparkling-wine production across three appellations: Crémant de Limoux, Blanquette de Limoux, and Blanquette Méthode Ancestrale. Today, the winery is led by sixth-generation family member Françoise Antech, who draws on tradition alongside modern, innovative solutions to reveal the unique terroir and history of the Limoux region.

Wine style

Antech sparkling wines are defined by refined freshness, a full texture, and a complex aromatic profile that reflects the character of Limoux.

  • Crémant de Limoux – produced by the traditional method, with Chardonnay typically in the lead, blended with Chenin Blanc and the local Mauzac, lending elegance and vibrant freshness.

  • Blanquette de Limoux – regarded as one of the oldest sparkling wines in the world; it is built predominantly (90%) on Mauzac, with the remainder coming from Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, shaping its distinctive style.

  • Blanquette Méthode Ancestrale – a rare, naturally sweet sparkling wine made in the ancestral method exclusively from late-harvest Mauzac, offering fruity expression and natural sweetness.

Prestige vineyards

The estate farms around 60 hectares of vineyards planted with Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Mauzac—the essential varieties for high-quality sparkling production. As its own fruit is not sufficient for total production needs, Antech has also established long-term grape-supply agreements with 35 local growers, ensuring consistent quality and reliable sourcing.

Ageing and drinking window

The structure of Antech’s sparkling wines makes them immediately enjoyable, with an outstanding balance of freshness and an elegant aromatic composition. At the same time, their complexity gives them the potential to evolve further with time, gaining even greater depth and more pronounced character as they mature.
