Crottin Picandou is a traditional, handcrafted cheese made from unpasteurized goat’s milk. Aged for 7 days, it retains youthful delicacy, a fresh character, and a subtle flavour.
Its texture is soft, smooth, and pleasantly even, while the aroma reveals notes typical of goat’s cheese, a light herbal tone, and subtle hints of hazelnuts. On the palate, this cheese remains gentle yet not understated, combining light creaminess with a restrained and elegant expression of goat’s milk character.
The origins of this cheese date back to the 18th century in the French Alps, the same region where the famous Reblochon cheese is produced. It is one of the most highly regarded and popular goat’s cheeses in France, having received international recognition, including a gold medal at the World Cheese Awards 2018–2019.
Crottin Picandou is enjoyable on its own or served as part of a cheese board, and it also pairs well with light snacks, fresh bread, or salads. Fresh, mineral-driven white wines are especially well suited to this cheese: it pairs beautifully with ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ from the Sancerre appellation, as well as with ‘Chardonnay’ without pronounced oak notes. For those looking for a red wine pairing, a lighter, fresher ‘Cabernet Franc’, such as one from Chinon, is a good choice.
