Description

Algueira Dolio Ribeira Sacra 2022 - stunning, yet restrained and pure, mineral but serious and persistent. The expression of white pepper, muscat and blueberries is subtle but bold. The wine is deep, luxurious but not overly fleshy. Simply unique, Dolio is a reflection of the heritage of Ribeira Sacra. The wine is obtained from excellent vineyards from the oldest vines on the steepest slopes. The wine is the result of a unique combination of local grape varieties and traditional winemaking methods, honoring the winemaking traditions passed down from generation to generation. The blend of local varieties such as 'Mencía', 'Brancellao', 'Sousón', 'Caíño' and 'Garnacha Tintorera' reflects the diversity and richness of this territory. Each variety contributes to the overall balance of the wine, offering concentrated flavors and extraordinary depth of aroma. All bunches are crushed and fermented with local yeasts, ensuring an authentic expression of the terroir. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 24 months, giving it a unique structure and elegance.

James Suckling

This shows a wonderfully complex nose of dried herbs and wild berries. The medium- to full-bodied palate is elegant and bright, with focused, precise tannins and incisive energy. There’s a sense of overall balance, with ethereal, nervy fruit that gives the wine both lift and depth. A blend of 45% mencia from Carballocobo, 25% souson, 15% brancellao, 7% merenzao, and a touch of caino. Drink or hold.

About brand

The Fernando Algueira estate is situated in the heart of Ribeira Sacra, within the rugged mountains of Galicia, where the first vines were planted by the Romans. This 30-hectare estate is rich in history and traditions that span millennia. However, when Fernando Algueira took over the property, most of the vineyards were abandoned. Through time and persistent effort, his team successfully revitalized these ancient plots, bridging ancestral traditions with innovative viticultural methods.

Indigenous Varieties and Winemaking Philosophy

The estate places a profound emphasis on indigenous grape varieties that are perfectly adapted to the climate and soils of the Galician mountains. Initially, the project focused on producing single-varietal wines to reveal the true essence of each grape and achieve a unique varietal character. Over time, their creative ambition to further highlight the distinctiveness of the Ribeira Sacra territory led to the development of blends. Today, these blends have achieved remarkable success among both local enthusiasts and international wine experts.

Exemplary Wines

The wines produced at this estate perfectly reflect the singularity of the Galicia region, merging the innate qualities of native grapes with precise winemaking techniques. These blends are characterized by their unique complexity, balanced palate, and high structural integrity. Their growing popularity stems from an ability to satisfy both the casual connoisseur and the demanding expert. Fernando Algueira has become a true icon of the Ribeira Sacra region, contributing significantly to the revival of local winemaking traditions while innovating through sophisticated blending and experimental production methods.
