Champagne Valentin Leflaive Verzenay Grand Cru |20|3.0 is a Blanc de Noirs champagne, made exclusively from 'Pinot Noir' grapes grown 100% in the Grand Cru vineyards of Verzenay village in Montagne de Reims. The vines are around 55 years old, with soils of chalk and sandy loam. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. The wine was aged on the lees for 31 months. Subtle aromas of red berries, sweet almonds and hazelnuts are complemented by notes of grapefruit and bitter orange, giving the champagne a long, mineral finish.
Dosage: 3g/l, which classifies this champagne as Extra Brut.
Serve at 6–8 °C. Pairs well with white poultry, mushrooms, Comté cheese or as an aperitif.
Disgorged in October 2023 with a dosage of three grams per liter, the 2020 Verzenay 20 3.0 Grand Cru offers up aromas of spring flowers, herbs, red berries and blanched almonds mingled with walnuts. Medium to full-bodied, tense and straight, with a delicately structured palate, it's incisive and framed by bright acids, concluding with an ethereal, fresh finish. It is derived entirely from vines planted in Verzenay.
A bright and well-cut Champagne, with an appealing juiciness to its ripe black cherry, black raspberry and yellow peach fruit flavors, all embellished with blanched almond, blood orange peel and mineral accents. Lightly spiced and lingering on the lacy finish. Disgorged October 2023. Drink now through 2030. 833 cases made, 150 cases imported.
The roots of the Champagne Valentin Leflaive adventure lie in the Leflaive family’s history in Puligny-Montrachet, where for centuries a love for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines—and the pursuit of precision in expressing Burgundy’s terroir—has prevailed.
Olivier Leflaive’s hallmark has long been the courage to take risks. Since 2015, a new chapter has been unfolding in Oger, at the heart of the Côte des Blancs: “Champagne de Lieux.” For this fresh and slightly unconventional project, Olivier chose the name Valentin—his son, born in 2007.
In 2020, Valentin Leflaive was officially approved as a Négociant-Manipulant and relocated to Oger. Champagne Valentin Leflaive established itself in an authentic winery with a traditional ageing cellar carved into the chalky soils. Jean Soubeyrand, together with cellar master Élysé Brigandat, leads this ongoing adventure.
This new beginning opens the way for distinctive experiments that reflect both the authenticity of the Champagne region and the Leflaive family’s ambition to craft wines defined by refinement and precision. Each glass from the Champagne Valentin Leflaive range is an invitation to discover Champagne at its best—an exploration of its landscapes and memories, where tasting becomes an unforgettable experience, first and foremost the fruit of a family adventure.
