Fruit and berry dry
Ilzenberg Manor Dry Red Grape Wine is a wine produced in Lithuania, made at Ilzenberg Manor, located in north-eastern Lithuania on historic estate grounds where a philosophy of sustainable agriculture is actively developed.
The wine is made from grapes grown on the estate, carefully tended according to natural farming principles. Northern European conditions—shorter growing seasons and wider temperature swings—shape the grape profile, where natural acidity, moderate sugar accumulation, and aromatic clarity play a key role. This makes it possible to craft a dry, structured, and unforced red wine focused on balance rather than extraction.
On the nose, it shows notes of red and dark berries, cherry, and plum, complemented by subtle earthy and spicy nuances. On the palate, the wine is dry with a clear line of acidity, medium body, gentle tannins, and a tidy structure. The finish is clean and restrained, reflecting the freshness typical of cool-climate wines.
It is a wine that represents the emerging direction of Lithuanian viticulture and shows how responsible work and respect for the environment can result in an authentic, local product.
Serve at 14–16 °C. Suitable for lighter meat dishes, poultry, stewed vegetables, or mature hard cheeses.
Ilzenberg Manor is a unique fusion of history, nature, and modern sustainable agriculture, located in the Rokiškis region, in the historic lands of the Selonians, between the scenic Ilgis and Apvalasas lakes. The manor stands on a hill offering impressive panoramic views, and its history dates back to 1515, when it was founded by Baron Berndt von Kersenbrock.
A Living Manor – A Living Tradition
After more than 500 years, Ilzenberg Manor has returned to its roots and today stands as the only manor in the Baltic States operating according to natural farming principles. It is not a museum, but a living estate where livestock is raised, gardens are cultivated, and food products are produced with deep respect for nature and sustainability.
One of the Northernmost Vineyards in Europe
Ilzenberg Manor is also remarkable for reviving historic winemaking traditions that date back to the Livonian era. In 2019, a 0.8-hectare vineyard was established on the estate, where approximately 1,200 vines are grown. This makes it one of the northernmost open-air vineyards in Europe.
The vineyard is planted with the following grape varieties:
These grape varieties were developed by American breeders through crossbreeding European and native vines, making them exceptionally well adapted to the Lithuanian climate. They can withstand temperatures as low as –35°C and are highly resistant to diseases, particularly powdery mildew. This allows Ilzenberg Manor to practice organic, chemical-free viticulture, fully aligned with its philosophy of sustainability and respect for nature.
