Red dry
Markowitsch Pinot Noir Reserve 2020 is a refined and rich dry red wine from the Carnuntum region, made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Ried Scheibner vineyard. The Ried Scheibner vineyard is located at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level, between the vineyards of Aubühel and Bärnreiser in the town of Höflein. The vineyard has a gentle eastward slope and its shape resembles a closed semicircle, making it particularly well protected from the wind. These factors provide dry and warm conditions for the Pinot Noir grapes. The soil here is characterized by a large proportion of limestone, and the surface is covered with gravelly loam, in some places with loess.
The wine has an intense aroma, dominated by wild cherries, liquorice, rowan, cloves and black pepper. The taste is characterized by a concentrated structure, soft tannins and fresh acidity, which gives a long-lasting silky aftertaste.
The grapes were hand-harvested in several stages from the beginning of September to ensure optimal ripeness. Spontaneous fermentation with the skins took place in wooden tanks at a temperature of 27-29°C, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels. The wine was aged for 16 months in used Burgundy oak barrels and then transferred to 500-liter oak tanks to maintain freshness and give structure.
Acidity: 5.4 g/l
Residual sugar: 1.0 g/l.
Serve at a temperature of 16 - 18 °C with poultry hearts, pork with parsley, tender duck or soft, mature cheeses.
