Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain 2022

188,00

Description

Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain 2022 is a classic example of the Burgundy white wine tradition, clearly expressing the voice of the upper slopes of Puligny-Montrachet. “Champ Gain” is one of the highest-situated Premier Cru sites in the appellation, which gives the wine not power, but tension and longevity.

The aroma is restrained yet multi-layered: citrus zest, white peach, pear, and delicate white floral notes intertwine with accents of chalk, wet stone, and a subtle nutty nuance.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with precise, vibrant acidity and a dense yet never heavy texture. The profile is firm, with clearly defined structure, where fruit and mineral accents work in unison. The finish is long and dry, marked by an elegant balance of bitterness and salinity.

The “Champ Gain” parcels lie above the village on limestone-based soils, where cooler exposure and constant air circulation allow ‘Chardonnay’ to retain fresh tension and a refined aromatic spectrum.

Fermentation and ageing take place using a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, with a restrained proportion of new oak to enhance texture without obscuring the sense of place.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 12-14°C with fresh salmon, scallops served with pancakes, stronger cheeses (Munster), crayfish cooked in cream sauce.

About brand

The name "Olivier Leflaive" is very well known to Burgundy lovers. The roots of this family, deeply embedded in the Puligny-Montrachet soil, date back to 1717, but it was not until the 20th century that Joseph Leflaive began actively cultivating the family winery and traditions. His vision was simple but grand – to create top-quality Burgundy wines that would reflect the unique terroir of the region.

His son Olivier, having inherited the family traditions, founded his own estate in 1984, named after himself. This step allowed him to experiment not only with white wines but also with red wines, expanding the family's holdings. In 2010, "Olivier Leflaive" regained its long-cherished vineyards, which had been leased to "Domaine Leflaive" for 18 years. Today, the estate boasts 15 hectares of prestigious vineyards in the Puligny, Chassagne, and Meursault regions.

The year 2023 marks a new chapter in the history of "Olivier Leflaive" – after a long and impressive career, technical director Franck Grux retired. His place was taken by the talented winemaker Solène Panigai, who will undoubtedly continue the traditions of this house and continue to create exceptional Burgundy wines.

Wine Style

Olivier Leflaive wines are characterized by nobility and elegance. They are balanced and pleasant to drink both young and aged.

The Olivier Leflaive estate wines are produced from vineyards located in prestigious areas:

  • Puligny-Montrachet AOC – renowned for its elegant 'Chardonnay' wines.
  • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Houillères – a vineyard bordering the legendary Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru.
  • Meursault 1er Cru Sous Le Dos D'Ane – known for its rich and mineral white wines.
  • Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru AOC – an appellation renowned for producing some of the best 'Chardonnay' wines in the world.

These vineyards are complemented by other, lesser-known but equally high-quality plots.
