Bodegas José Estévez S.A

1–10 of 10

Bodegas José Estévez S.A., known as Grupo Estévez, is a historic, family-owned wine and Sherry producer based in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Brief history and development

  • Roots date back to 1809, when the company was founded as José Leña Rendón & Co.
In 1894, it was renamed Félix Ruiz y Ruiz, S.A.
  • In 1974, the company was taken over by the Estévez family, who renamed it José Estévez, S.A. in 1984.
  • Between 1982–1985, the group acquired Bodegas Marqués del Real Tesoro; in 1989 these were consolidated into a single structure and equipped with modern facilities, including new fermentation tanks and laboratories.
  • By 1999, Bodegas Valdespino had been acquired; in 1993, the Sherry brand Fino Tío Mateo joined the portfolio.
  • In 2007, the iconic La Guita Manzanilla brand and its winery were incorporated into the group.

Vineyards and production scale

  • Grupo Estévez owns approximately 800 hectares of vineyards, including around 260 hectares in the prestigious Pago Macharnudo.
(Pago Macharnudo is one of the most renowned and prestigious single-vineyard areas in the Jerez region, producing Sherries of exceptional quality.)
  • It is the third-largest Sherry producer in Jerez and one of the largest producers of long-aged wines in the region.
