Château Beau-Site

1–1 of 1

Château Beau-Site, whose name means “beautiful place”, was already considered one of the highly regarded estates of the Médoc in the mid-19th century. The estate is distinguished by its 18th-century underground cellar, one of the oldest in the Médoc, providing ideal conditions for slow and controlled wine ageing. Today, Château Beau-Site produces wines whose style and quality rival those of Grand Cru Classé estates, despite officially holding Cru Bourgeois status.

Vineyards and Terroir

The vineyards of Château Beau-Site are located on one of the highest points in the Médoc, close to Château Calon Ségur, overlooking the Gironde River. The estate lies in the northern part of the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

The vineyard covers approximately 35 hectares, with an average vine age of 35 years. The soils consist of gravel, clay, and sand, which, together with the moderating influence of the Gironde, create a cool, balanced microclimate and allow for slow, even ripening of the grapes.

Grape composition:

  • 60% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 30% Merlot
  • 7% Cabernet Franc
  • 3% Petit Verdot

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand, and the wine is produced using traditional Bordeaux methods. After fermentation, it is aged in oak barrels for 12–15 months, approximately 50% of which are new. This ageing regime preserves fruit purity while adding structure, complexity, and ageing potential.

The style of Château Beau-Site reflects the classic character of Saint-Estèphe: structured and deep, with firm tannins, yet balanced and elegant — suitable both for ageing and for enjoyment in its youth.
