Red dry
Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso DOC 2023 from the slopes of Mount Etna – elegance and subtlety from the heart of Sicily.
This exceptional red wine is made from hand-picked young (6 years old) and old (50+ years old) vines growing on the northern side of Mount Etna, 600-900 m above sea level. The grapes grow in volcanic soil, which gives the wine a distinctive mineral character.
Fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 25-28°C, together with the skins of the berries, in order to obtain maximum depth of flavor and tannin structure. After natural malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for 16 months in large French oak barrels (10-30 hl) and for another 1 month in stainless steel tanks, in order to maintain freshness and fruitiness.
The ruby-colored wine delights with its intense aroma - ripe cherries, red plums, sour cherries and sweet spices dominate. The taste is fresh, delicately fragrant, elegant and with a pronounced mineral aftertaste, typical of the Etna region.
Serve at a temperature of 16-18° C with pasta, tuna, roasted pork bacon with anise, fresh cheeses.
The brightness, lovely density and focus come through clearly here with an almost pinot sensibility and a long finish. It’s polished with fine tannins and a brilliant texture. Mostly grapes from San Lorenzo and Calderara Sottana vineyards. Drink or hold.
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the result of over forty years of passion and work in the world of fine wines. The estate’s philosophy is simple. Given an extreme climate, in order to obtain the best and most consistent ripening, our attention must focus on vineyard management. The finest workmanship in all aspects of viticulture is the first thing that sets producer apart. A work best described as aimed above all at expressing the character of varieties in their specific terroir. The estate is located on the northern slopes of Etna, within the hilly belt that extends between Solicchiata and Randazzo, historically the area historically recognized as the finest in the appellation for fine red wines. The estate consists of approximately 45 hectares divided into 29 plots and in nine Contradas (crus). The soils differ very much from cru to cru, and even within the crus themselves. The same is true of the altitudes, our vineyards ranging between 600 and 1000 meters above sea level. With the exception of about 7 recently planted hectares, the rest are between 50 and 100 years old. Less than one hectare has reached the venerable age of over 140 years, surviving the phylloxera, and is therefore ungrafted.
