Although Muscat de Frontignan (one of the noblest branches of the Muscat family) originates in France, it reached its greatest historical fame on the other side of the world—in South Africa. It is precisely from this grape, in the picturesque Constantia valley, that the legendary Vin de Constance is born (magnificently recreated today by the renowned Klein Constantia estate). This is the liquid gold enjoyed in the 18th and 19th centuries by European royalty, literary giants like Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, and even Napoleon Bonaparte himself during his exile.
