Appellation lies in Piedmont, neighboring the renowned regions of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is the place where the ‘Barbera’ grape reveals its most elegant and balanced expression – combining rich fruitiness, freshness, and refined structure.
Established in 1970, the appellation includes vineyards surrounding the town of Alba and parts of the Langhe hills. The area benefits from an ideal microclimate: warm days and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining vibrant acidity – one of Barbera’s defining traits.
The soils vary from calcareous clay to sand and marl, giving the wines both depth and finesse. Thanks to this terroir, Barbera d’Alba wines show greater concentration and intensity compared to the lighter Barbera d’Asti style.
The aroma is dominated by ripe cherries, plums, and blackcurrants, accented with subtle spice and gentle oak nuances. On the palate, the wines are silky and balanced, with soft tannins, lively acidity, and a long, fruit-driven finish.

Winemakers often prefer short aging in French or Slavonian oak barrels to preserve the natural fruit character of Barbera. Some producers craft more ambitious examples – aged longer, deeper, and more structured – yet always maintaining the grape’s signature energy and brightness.
Today, Barbera d’Alba is considered one of Piedmont’s finest red wines for both everyday enjoyment and fine dining – full of character yet effortlessly versatile at the table.
