Reflection of elegance and finesse in the southern part of Burgundy, within the Côte Chalonnaise region. It is one of the oldest and most esteemed appellations of the area, located between the villages of Chagny and Mercurey, near the border of Côte de Beaune. Here, both refined white wines and harmoniously structured reds are produced.
The winemaking tradition in Rully dates back to the Middle Ages, but the region’s true rise began in the early 20th century, when its white wines started being served in Paris and featured on the menus of the city’s finest restaurants. The appellation was officially established in 1939, and today it includes 23 Premier Cru vineyards.
The climate is continental, with warm summers and cool, sunny autumns. Vineyards are planted between 230 and 300 meters above sea level, on gentle slopes facing south and southeast, ensuring even ripening of the grapes.
The soils are typically Burgundian – clay-limestone with marl deposits. These provide minerality and structure to the whites, while giving the reds a firm framework and subtle earthy character.
The white wines of Rully are made from ‘Chardonnay’ and are known for their elegant texture and notes of citrus, white flowers, almonds, and butter, which evolve into honey and toasted hazelnut tones with age. Aging in oak (usually 6–12 months) lends a silky richness and depth.
The reds, made from ‘Pinot Noir’, are gentle, with fine tannins and aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and spices. On the palate, they offer a graceful balance of lightness and structure, characteristic of the best Côte Chalonnaise examples.
