One of Italy’s most influential appellations, giving winemakers the freedom to explore creativity and modern style.
This classification covers the entire Tuscany region — from the Tyrrhenian coast to the Apennine hills — allowing producers to craft wines beyond traditional DOC and DOCG boundaries while maintaining exceptional quality and expression.
Established in 1992, Toscana IGT emerged when Italian wine laws were revised to provide space for innovation. The category became famous for the so-called Super Tuscan wines – high-quality creations blending ‘Sangiovese’ with international varieties such as ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, and ‘Syrah’.
The climate is typically Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers and cool nights. Vineyards are planted at various elevations: coastal sites produce deeper, fruit-driven wines, while hillside plots yield fresher, more structured expressions with vibrant acidity.
The soils are highly diverse – ranging from clay and limestone to sand and marl. This geological variety enables a wide spectrum of styles, from soft and elegant to powerful and tannic.
Toscana IGT wines may reflect both the classic ‘Sangiovese’ character – notes of cherry, dried herbs, and leather – and richer profiles of dark fruit and spice contributed by Bordeaux varieties.

Aging takes place in stainless steel or French oak, with many winemakers seeking a refined balance between fruit and oak to highlight the unique terroir.
Today, Toscana IGT stands as a symbol of freedom and creativity. It bridges tradition and modernity, allowing producers to express the true essence of Tuscany without rigid rules while upholding the highest standards of quality.
