Description

The Grand Cru Saint-Émilion AOC - Château Laforge delivers a wine of exceptional character, delighting with its velvety and round mouthfeel and impressing with its masterful balance.

On the nose, this captivating wine presents enticing notes of wild berry jam, ripe plums, and rum pot. These initial fruity hints are beautifully joined by more complex fruity-balsamic nuances. The palate is round, juicy, and smooth, where dark fruits are expressive and well-balanced. This fleshy and silky red wine unfolds on the tongue, showcasing its multifaceted nature.

Crafted from hand-picked grapes of the noble ‘Cabernet Franc’ and ‘Merlot’ varieties, Château Laforge truly captures the best of the Bordeaux region in every glass. The 5.8-hectare vineyard is notably planted to 92% ‘Merlot’ and 8% ‘Cabernet Franc’, representing one of the highest percentages of ‘Merlot’ among all Maltus-owned estates.

The meticulous vinification process begins in temperature-controlled wood vats. Malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barrels, and the wine is subsequently aged in 80% new, French oak barrels, which significantly contributes to its remarkable complexity and structure.

Serving recommendations

We recommend serving at 16-18 C with red meat, wild poultry dishes.

About brand

Château Laforge is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Bordeaux wine estate, renowned for producing elegant and well-balanced wines from the right bank of the Gironde. These wines faithfully express the character of the local terroir and reflect the classic style of Bordeaux winemaking.

The vineyards are primarily planted with ‘Merlot’ and ‘Cabernet Franc’ grape varieties. Approximately 92% ‘Merlot’ and 8% ‘Cabernet Franc’ are cultivated, a combination that gives the wines a rich profile of red and dark fruits, refined structure, and harmonious balance.

The name “Château Laforge” originates from the profession of a former owner – blacksmithing (French: la forge), who established the first vineyard plots in the 19th century, later consolidated into a single estate. Since 1998, the property has been owned by English winemaker Jonathan Maltus, also known for other notable Bordeaux projects such as “Château Teyssier” and “Le Dôme.” Under his leadership, production processes were modernized and quality control significantly enhanced, allowing Château Laforge to become an even more distinguished name in Saint-Émilion.

Winemaking at Château Laforge follows a meticulous and precise approach: grapes are harvested by hand, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats, and malolactic fermentation is carried out in French oak barrels. Around 80% of the wine is aged in new French oak.
