De Martino Cellar Collection Quebrada Seca Limarí Valley Chardonnay 2009 is an exceptional Chilean gem that, despite its vintage year, impresses with its remarkable ripeness and classic minerality. This limited-production wine offers a unique glimpse into the cool-climate potential of Limarí, promising a truly captivating experience for Chardonnay enthusiasts.
While 2009 was generally a warm vintage in Chile, the Limarí Valley experienced normal to cool conditions. This allowed this "Quebrada Seca Chardonnay" to achieve ripe fruit flavors alongside its signature classic minerality. The harvest, hand-picked during the first week of March, stands out with its broad palate and crisp acidity, culminating in a beautifully balanced wine.
The grapes for this 100% Chardonnay hail from the Limarí Valley (northern Chile), from a vineyard located just 25 km from the Pacific Ocean. This proximity ensures the constant influence of the Humboldt Current, bringing a refreshing sea breeze that shapes the wine's character. The vines, planted at a density of 3,333 plants per hectare, are rooted in calcareous clay soil – an ancient alluvial terrace of the Limarí River, which significantly contributes to the wine's distinctive minerality.
Only 3,000 bottles are available, making this a truly special release.
Serve at 12-14 °C with salmon steaks, chicken mince, lighter cheeses.
