Red dry
A modern, naturally styled Beaujolais Cru wine, born from the winemakers’ desire to reveal the true character of ‘Gamay’ with no intervention. This is a vibrant, authentic, and refined expression of Chiroubles, crafted solely from naturally fermented grapes, without added yeasts and with only a minimal amount of sulfites.
The grapes grow on the high slopes of Chiroubles, where granite soils give the wine minerality, lightness, and subtle structure. These conditions highlight the purity of the terroir and the natural energy of the fruit.
In the glass, it opens with aromas of ripe raspberries, cherries, strawberries, and flowers, complemented by herbal, lightly spicy, and mineral notes. The bouquet is fresh, natural, and expressive, with a delicate wild-fruit vibrancy typical of naturally fermented Beaujolais wines.
On the palate, the wine is light and lively, with bright acidity that gives a gentle sparkle and a silky texture. Its flavor profile combines red berries, floral tones, and gentle spice, leading to a long, pure, and slightly saline mineral finish.
Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts to preserve the authentic fruit expression, and the wine is aged in stainless steel tanks, unfiltered, to maintain its natural liveliness and integrity.
Serve at 13–14 °C. Pairs well with cold meat appetizers, roasted poultry, or light goat cheese.
Wild and pretty aromas of dried strawberries, red cherries, licorice and flowers. Touch of clay. It’s medium-bodied, fresh and open, with powdery tannins and a creamy finish. Drink now.
The story of Domaine Château de Javernand began in 1917, when great-grandfather Auguste Faye, visiting the Mâcon region to purchase wine, was captivated by the charm of Château de Javernand and decided to acquire the entire estate – the château, vineyards, and surrounding lands. Since then, this family domain has preserved an unbroken line of tradition, passed down through generations. Today, the fifth generation – Arthur Fourneau and his cousin Mathilde Pénicaud – lead the estate, combining inherited knowledge with a modern approach to sustainable viticulture. Since 2018, part of the vineyard has been certified organic, and the entire philosophy is based on respect for the land, the vine, and the authentic expression of terroir.
Wine Style
The wines of Domaine Château de Javernand embody the bright, delicate, and elegant character of Beaujolais. The family specializes in the Beaujolais Cru Chiroubles appellation, renowned as one of the highest and most “feminine” crus – producing aromatic, floral, and refined expressions of ‘Gamay’.
Prestigious Vineyards
The estate’s pride lies in its vineyards within the Chiroubles AOP appellation – gently sloping hillsides located around 400 meters above sea level. This terroir is considered the purest expression of Beaujolais, combining fruitiness, floral charm, and finesse. The granite and sandy soils lend freshness, subtle minerality, and great ageing potential. Domaine Château de Javernand also manages smaller parcels in other parts of Beaujolais, producing both classic Cru wines and more contemporary natural cuvées, such as Indigène, made from naturally fermented ‘Gamay’ grapes.
Ageing and Drinking Window
The winery uses the traditional carbonic maceration method to preserve the natural fruitiness and aromatic softness of ‘Gamay’. The wines are aged in stainless steel tanks and old oak barrels to maintain the perfect balance between freshness and texture. Young wines are vibrant and easy to enjoy upon release, while the best examples, such as Vieilles Vignes Chiroubles, can age gracefully for 5–8 years, developing deeper floral and complex nuances over time.
