Description

Château Rauzan-Ségla Margaux Grand Cru Classé 2023 is one of the most refined expressions of Margaux Grand Cru Classé, reflecting classic Médoc elegance and balanced structure. The history of Rauzan-Ségla is rooted in traditional Médoc heritage, yet its wines consistently speak with a clear sense of place—defined by subtlety, precise fruit expression, and mineral tension.

The aroma is layered and elegant: blackcurrants, ripe cherries, and red fruits intertwine with notes of graphite, cedar, herbal spices, and delicate hints of pepper. In the glass, the bouquet unfolds steadily, revealing depth and a clearly articulated site character.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with well-balanced acidity and an elegant tannic framework. The profile is focused and composed, where fruit integrates seamlessly with a mineral backbone and a gentle touch of savory spice. The finish is long and dry, marked by a refined balance of bitterness and freshness.

The Margaux appellation is known for its gravelly, sandy soils, which allow wines to retain finesse and graceful structure even in riper years. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts, followed by ageing in a combination of stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels (with a proportion of new oak), aiming to enhance texture and express the voice of the place without obscuring the distinctive Margaux style.

Serving recommendations

James Suckling

Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with walnuts and hints of tar that follow through to a medium to full body with plush and velvety tannins and a lovely, caressing mouthfeel. It closes up at the end. Extremely long, pure and structured. Classic 72% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot and 2% petit verdot. From organically grown grapes. Give this at least until after 2030 to open and come around.
