White dry
The Domaine Chatelain Pouilly-Fumé "Les Chailloux Silex" 2024 embodies the pure expression of ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ from the Loire Valley.
Visually, it presents a brilliant pale golden yellow. On the nose, it offers a lively, mineral, and subtly minty scent, hinting at its unique terroir. The palate is equally mineral and spicy, showcasing an elegant structure.
This elegant wine is crafted from approximately 40-year-old vines that thrive in distinctive silty-clay soils rich in silicon – the very "Chailloux," or "hot stones," that give the vineyard its name and orange-yellow tint.
Fermented and aged exclusively in stainless steel, this single-varietal ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ delivers unadulterated enjoyment, highlighting the vibrant character imparted by its limestone and clay soils. It's a wine that balances crispness with depth, a true testament to its Pouilly-Fumé origins.
Serve at 10-12 °C with shellfish, fish dishes, goat's cheese, prawn tempura.
The Chatelain family has been cultivating vines on the slopes of Pouilly-sur-Loire since 1630 – the twelfth generation is currently working on the estate. André Chatelain, who passed away in 2005, was one of the first winegrowers in the Pouilly area of the Loire to start exporting his wines and build an international reputation for his winery. These efforts were rewarded with success – Domaine Chatelain has become one of the most recognized producers in Pouilly-sur-Loire.
The grapes for the famous Pouilly-Fumé (Pouilly – the name of the place, Fumé – smoky) grow in a unique, mineral-rich soil composed of a mixture of clay and gravel, covered with limestone, flint, and calcareous tufa. It is this complex of minerals that gives the wine its characteristic smoky flavor, which is inseparable from arguably the most elegant expression of ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ in the world.
