Egly-Ouriet Ambonnay Rouge – Coteaux Champenois AOC 2022 is an exceptionally rare red wine from Champagne, revealing the true potential of Ambonnay Grand Cru. This is not a Champagne, but a still wine that expresses the power, elegance, and terroir-driven character of Pinot Noir.
The wine is produced from very old vines grown in one of the most prestigious villages of Champagne. The chalky slopes of Ambonnay, rich in limestone and clay, give the wine remarkable structure, mineral depth, and longevity. Production is extremely limited, making each bottle a true rarity.
On the nose, aromas of black cherries, raspberries, plum skins, and dried flowers unfold, complemented by subtle notes of spice, tobacco, and gentle smokiness. Extended aging in oak adds further complexity, revealing hints of nuts, vanilla, and earthy tones, all wrapped in a refined layer of ripe fruit.
On the palate, the wine is expressive yet elegant, with firm but silky tannins. Flavors of ripe red berries, spices, and pronounced mineral tension dominate, supported by a vibrant, well-integrated acidity. The finish is long, dry, and precise, leaving a lasting impression of finesse and depth.
The wine is aged for approximately 22 months in oak barrels, allowing it to evolve naturally and gain complexity. It stands as a powerful testament that Champagne is capable of producing not only world-class sparkling wines, but also truly outstanding red wines of character and distinction.
