F. Mikulski Chardonnay Cote d’Or Blanc AOC 2023

Description

One of the most refined and distinctive examples of modern Burgundy ‘Chardonnay’, revealing François Mikulski’s mastery and his ability to balance tradition with contemporary elegance. This wine captures the essence of the Côte d’Or region — where minerality meets pure fruit expression and flawless texture.

On the nose, it unfolds with notes of white flowers, green apples, lemon zest, and delicate brioche, complemented by subtle hints of hazelnut and wet stone. The bouquet is clean and sophisticated – subtle yet expressive, showcasing the classic character of Burgundian ‘Chardonnay’.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with bright acidity, a silky, creamy texture, and a long, precise finish, where citrus freshness, saline minerality, and a gentle touch of oak come together in perfect harmony. The flavor profile is balanced and vibrant, defined by graceful intensity.

The grapes are grown on the slopes of Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, where limestone and clay soils lend the wine vertical structure and a pure aromatic profile. This terroir allows ‘Chardonnay’ to achieve a perfect balance between ripeness and freshness – a wine that shines with light rather than weight.

Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels (around 15% new oak) to enhance texture and aromatic depth while preserving natural liveliness and clarity.

Serving recommendations

Serving: Serve at 10–12 °C with baked sea bass in lemon butter, chicken with white mushroom risotto, or mature Comté cheese.

About brand

François Mikulski, the son of a Polish émigré, manages his winery in Chassagne-Montrachet and has turned his unusual surname for the region into an advantage. His wines stand out not only in taste but also in appearance – the winemaker's name, surname, and vineyard are simply written in white paint, like chalk, on a plain, monochromatic bottle. Since the family winery is located in the Meursault area, he primarily specializes in producing brightly flavored white wines bearing the village's name.

Wine Style

Aiming to preserve the inherent characteristics of the growing site and grape variety, François Mikulski employs organic winemaking methods. His wines are expressive, boast exceptional balance, and are enjoyable both fresh and aged.

  • White wines (mostly from ‘Chardonnay’) feature minerality, a pleasant texture, an expressive, pure aroma, and a beautifully integrated oak character. He cultivates ‘Chardonnay’ grapes typical of the Meursault village, along with two small ‘Aligoté’ vineyards planted in 1929 and 1948.
  • Red wines (from ‘Pinot Noir’) are aromatic, with polished tannins, juicy, and dominated by red berry characteristics.

Prestigious Vineyards

The family currently manages 9 hectares of vineyards, three-quarters of which are dedicated to white grape varieties. The remaining just over 2 hectares are planted with ‘Pinot Noir’ grapes. Among them are also less famous but distinctive vineyards in Chassagne, Meursault, and Pommard.

Aging and Consumption Period

After a meticulous sorting of bunches during harvest, grapes are destemmed and gently pressed using a pneumatic press. Natural yeasts are used for fermentation.

Aging in barrels lasts 10–12 months. To ensure the oak doesn't overshadow the vineyard's inherent flavor, François uses no more than 20% new barrels.
