Description

Poliziano Morellino di Scansano Lohsa 2023 is a red wine that accurately conveys the character of southern Tuscany, Maremma, in which the classic ‘Sangiovese’ structure meets a warmer, closer-to-the-sea fruitiness. “Lohsa” is made from 85% ‘Sangiovese’ and 15% ‘Ciliegiolo’, from vineyards in the Magliano Toscana area, so its style is both Tuscan tension and a softer, sunny coastal expression.

The aroma reveals bright nuances of cherries, black cherries, plums and violet blossoms, complemented by thyme, light vanilla and subtly spicy notes. The aroma is not overloaded, quite open, based on a combination of ripe red fruit and Mediterranean herbs.

In the mouth, the wine is juicy, harmonious and lively. It has a warm, ripe fruit core, but is supported by fresh acidity and a clearly perceptible but not aggressive support of tannins. The aftertaste remains cherry, slightly herbal and pleasantly spicy.

The style of this wine is strongly shaped by the terroir: the vineyards are located at an altitude of 100-130 m, with a southern and southwestern exposure, the soil is rich in stony, well-drained elements of galestro and marl. The close influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea helps to maintain a balance between ripeness, freshness and spicy Mediterranean tones.

Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with a maceration of about 15-20 days, and the aging is carried out in a combination of different tanks to preserve the fruitiness while giving it more texture and roundness. As a result, Lohsa is not a heavy or overly oaked example of the Morellino style - rather a precise, clean and gastronomic Maremma red

Serving recommendations
