Chateau Branaire - Ducru

1–2 of 2

Château Branaire-Ducru is a prestigious Bordeaux wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation, one of the long-standing members of the Grand Cru Classé classification established in 1855. The estate is located in the very heart of the Médoc region.

Its origins date back to the time of Jean Baptiste-Braneyre, who founded the estate and laid the foundations for this classic vineyard. He acquired the land here in the early 18th century. In 1875, a later owner added the second part to the name. Château Branaire-Ducru became synonymous with a precise interpretation of Bordeaux ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ and an excellent reflection of the Saint-Julien terroir.

The estate manages around 50 hectares of vineyards, planted on fine gravel soils that are considered among the best for growing ‘Cabernet Franc’ and ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapes. The vineyard composition is typical of the appellation: ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and ‘Petit Verdot’, and their blends give the wines structure, elegance, and significant ageing potential.

In the vineyards, Château Branaire-Ducru follows sustainability principles, with careful attention to soil health and the long-term vitality of the vines. Manual harvesting and rigorous grape selection ensure that only perfectly ripe fruit reaches fermentation, preserving aromatic purity and flavor concentration.

The winemaking process involves traditional Bordeaux fermentation methods combined with modern control techniques, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new.

In Branaire-Ducru wines, elegance is combined with power: clearly expressed fruit character, subtle floral and spice notes, a mineral backbone, and a long, refined finish. These qualities allow the wines to age gracefully for decades and to reveal the deep character of the Saint-Julien terroir.
