‘Glera’ is a white grape variety originating in Italy’s northern Veneto region. Historically known by the same name, it later became widely recognized as the primary grape for Prosecco. It is Glera that gives Prosecco its freshness, lightness, and delicate fruitiness, helping make this sparkling wine one of the most popular in the world. The variety thrives in cooler, hilly sites—especially around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene—where grapes are hand-harvested to preserve subtle aromas. Wines made from Glera are typically pale straw in color, light to medium in body, with bright acidity. The aromatic profile features notes of green apple, pear, lemon zest, white peach, and acacia, often with a gentle hint of almond or white flowers.
