Marco de Jerez, also known as the Sherry Triangle, is a unique wine region in southwestern Andalusia, Spain. It encompasses three historic towns — Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and El Puerto de Santa María. This is the birthplace of the legendary Sherry wines, renowned for their distinctive style, authenticity, and centuries-old winemaking traditions.
The region’s uniqueness lies in its fertile “albariza” limestone soils, known for their excellent moisture retention, and the interplay between the Mediterranean warmth and Atlantic influence. With over 300 sunny days per year, grapes ripen slowly and evenly, preserving aromatic purity, freshness, and a refined mineral structure.
Chereso wines, labeled under the D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry appellation, are made primarily from the white ‘Palomino’ grape, while sweeter styles are produced from ‘Pedro Ximénez’ and ‘Moscatel’ varieties. The wines are aged using the unique “solera” system, where younger wines are blended with older ones to achieve consistent style, depth, and expressive character.
