Pont-l’Évêque AOP is one of the oldest cheeses of Normandy, with a history dating back to the 13th century. This traditional soft cow’s milk cheese with a washed rind was born in the Pays d’Auge region of Normandy, while its current name became established only in the 16th century. Previously, it was known as Angelot or Augelot, named after the area where it was produced. Today, Pont-l’Évêque is considered one of Normandy’s great gastronomic icons and is protected under AOP designation.
