Château Talbot is a classic Bordeaux wine estate in the Saint-Julien appellation, combining traditional Médoc style with a clearly expressed terroir signature. Since the 1855 Bordeaux Wine Classification, the estate has held the rank of Quatrième Grand Cru Classé (Fourth Growth). This is one of the highest positions officially recognized in 1855, maintained for more than 165 years and testifying to a consistent level of quality.

The name Château Talbot originates from Connétable Talbot, a famous English military commander of the Middle Ages. The estate is located in the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, close to the Gironde estuary, where gravel soils provide good drainage and promote optimal ripening conditions in the vineyards.

The vineyards cover around 110 hectares of contiguous plots, forming one of the largest single vineyard areas in the Médoc region, which partly explains the estate’s ability to produce a broad stylistic range of wines. The production of red wines is based on the classic Bordeaux blend: ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Petit Verdot’, and ‘Cabernet Franc’, while the estate also maintains a smaller area dedicated to white wine production with ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ and ‘Sémillon’ varieties.

The harvest is carried out by hand, and fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures in both stainless steel and wooden vats. The wines are then aged in French oak barrels for 14–16 months, following traditional Médoc practices that provide additional structure and subtle aromatic nuances.

Château Talbot produces its main Grand Vin “Château Talbot,” as well as a second wine, “Connétable de Talbot,” released since 1979, and the white wine “Caillou Blanc,” one of the oldest dry white Bordeaux wines from the Médoc, first produced in the 1930s.

Talbot wines are characterized by a clear Saint-Julien structure, firm tannins, balanced acidity, and expressive fruit aromas that evolve over time into a more complex and deeper profile, allowing them to age for many years. The wines of this estate are widely recognized and valued for their elegance, classic Médoc character, and their ability to develop gracefully with maturity.
