Description

Discover the exceptional Jacquesson Dizy Corne Bautray Extra Brut 2014 Champagne – a true ‘Chardonnay’ masterpiece born in one of Champagne’s most renowned Premier Cru vineyards.

This Champagne boasts a complex aroma, revealing notes of white fruits (apples, peaches), toasted almonds, brioche, hazelnuts, and distinct minerality. On the palate, a vibrant and saline taste unfolds, complemented by crisp and sharp acidity. The wine captivates with its creamy texture and complexity.

This Blanc de Blancs Champagne is crafted from meticulously selected grapes from the “Corne Bautray” Premier Cru plot in Dizy village. This vineyard, established in 1960, is ideally situated on a southwest-facing slope. Its clay topsoil over pure chalk beneath imparts an exceptional mineral note to the ‘Chardonnay’ Champagne.

This Champagne undergoes natural fermentation and is aged in large oak foudres on its lees, without filtration or fining. Subsequently, it matures in the bottle with yeasts for 9 years. A very low dosage (0.5 g/L) emphasizes its purity, allowing the authentic terroir to fully express its beauty.

Serving recommendations

Serve at 8-10 °C with seafood, white meat dishes, mature cheeses with white mould.

About brand

Jacquesson Champagne House, founded by Memmie Jacquesson in 1798, stands as one of the very first and historically most significant producers in the Champagne region. Until the mid-19th century, it proudly ranked among the most renowned and finest champagne makers, earning international acclaim. Unfortunately, upon the passing of both of the then-owner's sons, the company's image suffered significantly.

The Chiquet brothers, Jean-Hervé and Laurent, who managed Jacquesson until 2022, when the house was acquired by Artemis, part of the Pinault family, brought Jacquesson back to its former glory. It was the Chiquet brothers who introduced a unique and distinctive approach to champagne production: they began crafting non-vintage Jacquesson champagnes primarily based on a single year's harvest. This method aims to express and convey the specific character of that particular year's vintage, which is quite unusual for the Champagne region (though in recent years, more champagne houses are attempting to follow this path). Their philosophy centers on nurturing nature, carefully selecting grapes, and allowing them to express the authentic character of their terroir.

Wine Style

Jacquesson champagne boasts exceptional balance, being enjoyable both in its youth and when mature, perfectly revealing its vineyard of origin.

  • Champagne from ‘Chardonnay’ grapes – characterized by clear minerality, a substantial texture, an expressive, pure aroma, and a perfectly integrated oak character. It offers refreshing yellow fruit notes intertwined with subtle smoky accents, imparted by the region's Kimmeridgian marl and clayey limestone soils, where 'Chardonnay' grapes thrive.

Prestigious Vineyards

While Jacquesson meticulously cultivates its own vineyards, encompassing 32 hectares with a significant portion in Premier Cru and Grand Cru plots, they also openly acknowledge purchasing some grapes from trusted long-term partners. This allows them to maintain the highest quality and reflect the broad spectrum of Champagne's terroir. Among the prestigious areas from which they source grapes are:

  • Avize (Grand Cru) – famous for its 'Chardonnay' grapes, imparting elegance and minerality to the champagne.
  • Ay (Grand Cru) – known for 'Pinot Noir', providing structure and depth to the wine.
  • Dizy (Premier Cru) – noted for its excellent balance of 'Pinot Noir' and 'Chardonnay'.
  • Hautvillers (Premier Cru) – a historic village where all three main Champagne grape varieties are grown, contributing to complexity.

Aging and Consumption Period

One of the greatest advantages of Jacquesson champagne is its style. It allows for enjoyment of the wines in their early youth, immediately after release, savoring their vibrant freshness. The champagne reveals its excellent balance from the outset and possesses the potential to age successfully and evolve over time.
