Red dry
Château Fongaban represents the elegant voice of the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation — a wine shaped by limestone plateaus, cool hillside exposures, and the classic duet of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It clearly reflects its close kinship with nearby Saint-Émilion: refined rather than heavy, precisely structured, with fruit that is ripe yet remarkably pure.
The nose opens with layers of black plum, cherry, blackberry, and a touch of gently jammy blueberry. These are followed by cedar, fresh herbs, subtle tobacco leaf, and a hint of graphite. As it evolves, a delicate note of cocoa and a distinct limestone minerality emerge, adding depth and definition.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, juicy, and finely structured. Silky, polished tannins create an elegant texture, while a lively acidity keeps the rich fruit in balance. The flavour profile is dominated by dark berries, light spice, and a mineral, slightly savoury finish — a hallmark of Castillon’s limestone terraces. The finish is clean, persistent, and marked by red-fruit brightness and a whisper of smoke.
Château Fongaban’s vineyards lie on the slopes of the Castillon hills, where limestone and clay soils give the wine its structure, mineral tension, and aromatic precision. The elevated exposures help preserve freshness even in warm vintages — one of the appellation’s greatest strengths.
Crafted in the traditional Right Bank style: hand-harvested fruit, meticulous sorting, and fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (a mix of new and seasoned wood), shaping the structure gently while preserving the purity of fruit and the expression of terroir.
Serve at 16-18 °C with beef stews with vegetables/wild mushrooms, veal dishes.
