About brand

Château Pape Clément is one of the historic wine estates of Bordeaux, located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and classified as a Graves Grand Cru Classé, a status it has held since 1959. The history of the estate is among the oldest in the entire Bordeaux region: vines were planted here as early as 1252, and the land belonged to Bertrand de Goth, the future Pope Clement V, from whom the name Château Pape Clément originates. It is one of the oldest continuously operating wine estates in Bordeaux, with an unbroken winemaking tradition spanning more than seven centuries.

The estate’s vineyards cover approximately 60–75 hectares, most of which are dedicated to red wines, with the remainder planted to white varieties. The production of red wines is based on the classic Bordeaux blend: ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’, ‘Merlot’, ‘Petit Verdot’, and ‘Cabernet Franc’, allowing the creation of wines with clear structure, aromatic complexity, and significant ageing potential. The white wines are produced from ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ and ‘Sémillon’, varieties that provide concentration, freshness, and a distinctive mineral expression.

The winemaking philosophy of Château Pape Clément is founded on respect for terroir and long-standing tradition. Careful vineyard management, strict selection of the harvest, and precise winemaking enable the creation of wines that combine depth, elegance, and concentration. The red wines display a complex aromatic palette with notes of dark fruits, spices, and smoky nuances, supported by balanced tannins, while the whites stand out for their vibrant acidity, citrus character, and long-lasting finish.

Today, Château Pape Clément is owned by Bernard Magrez, under whose leadership the estate successfully combines modern viticulture and winemaking techniques with respect for tradition and the character of the terroir. Thanks to consistently high standards, clearly expressed terroir, and outstanding ageing potential, the wines of this estate have earned international recognition and are highly valued by critics, collectors, professionals, and enthusiasts alike.
