About brand

Château Trottevieille is one of the most distinctive and consistent wine estates in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation of the Bordeaux region. Although Saint-Émilion does not have the same formal ranking system as Margaux or Pauillac within the 1855 Classification, Trottevieille has long been recognized as a producer of consistently high quality wines, creating expressive, structured wines with a clearly defined terroir signature.

The estate is located on the slopes close to the historic center of Saint-Émilion. This position provides a natural microclimate in which fertile clay-limestone soils allow the vines to achieve an excellent balance between structure and fruit character. The vineyards cover approximately 13–15 hectares, with highly varied soils ranging from deeper clay to gravelly loam, enabling the expression of individual plot nuances and a more complex aromatic and flavour profile.

Château Trottevieille mainly uses the traditional right-bank Bordeaux red blend: ‘Merlot’, ‘Cabernet Franc’, and ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’. This combination gives the wines fruitiness and softness (from ‘Merlot’), along with structure, aromatic depth, and a firm tannic framework provided by ‘Cabernet Franc’ and ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’. The average age of the vines is around 30 years or more.

The harvest is carried out by hand in order to select only the best and most perfectly ripe grapes. Fermentation usually takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels, typically for 12–18 months, depending on the character of the vintage.

Château Trottevieille wines are characterized by a subtle balance between fruit and structure: the aromas can reveal dark berries with hints of earthy and spicy nuances, while on the palate they are firm yet elegant, with well-defined tannins that become increasingly refined with ageing.

Although Château Trottevieille is not classified among the elite Premier Grand Cru Classé A or B levels, it is widely appreciated for its consistent quality, clearly expressed terroir, and classic interpretation of the Saint-Émilion style. Wines from this estate regularly receive positive reviews and high ratings in wine publications, and their quality-to-price ratio is often highlighted as one of their key strengths for those seeking an authentic expression of Saint-Émilion.
