White dry
Masciarelli Marina Cvetic Riserva Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC 2022 is a 100% ‘Trebbiano d’Abruzzo’ wine from Abruzzo, belonging to the prestigious Marina Cvetic line, which was first created in 1991. This is not a light, neutral Italian white, but a wine of a more mature, deeper style, in which the local variety is combined with aging in French oak barrels.
The aroma of the wine reveals itself in a rich and multi-layered way: notes of pear, honey, white flowers, tropical fruits and almonds, as well as hints of green gooseberries, lime, vanilla. The overall impression is not only fruity, but also subtly spicy, gently creamy, already having the depth given by aging.
The taste of the wine is fuller, with a soft texture, but without losing its freshness. Its harmony, broad structure and long, rich aftertaste are emphasized, while maintaining a neat, uncluttered balance. This is a white in which the character of ‘Trebbiano’ is not reduced to a simple freshness, but is expanded into a more mature, more gastronomic direction.
The character of this wine is shaped by the vineyards of the Chieti province in the areas of Bucchianico, San Martino sulla Marrucina and Ripa Teatina. Official sources indicate that these plots are characterized by specific conditions: Bucchianico is located next to impressive calanchi formations, San Martino sulla Marrucina vines blend into a more wooded landscape, and Ripa Teatina is distinguished by skeletal, river sediment soil, as well as clayey, moderately calcareous soils and an altitude of about 250-400 m above sea level, which helps to maintain both concentration and a fresher structure.
A purposeful method is used in winemaking, which forms the characteristic style of this wine: the harvest is carried out between October 10-20, followed by 12 hours of cryomaceration, fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels, and the wine is then aged in barrels for 12 months and another 12 months in the bottle.
Serve at 10-12° C with smoked oily fish, risotto with vegetables/seafood, braised white meat, white fish soup.
Gianni Masciarelli Winery – The Elite of Abruzzo Wines
Since 1978, when Gianni Masciarelli took over the family winery in the commune of San Martino sulla Marrucina, it has become one of the leading names in Italian winemaking. The estate’s wines, known for their exceptional quality, have become true symbols of Italian wine culture.
Innovative Winemaking in Abruzzo
Gianni Masciarelli was among the first to introduce modern winemaking techniques to the traditionally underdeveloped Abruzzo region. His work combined respect for local traditions with innovation, cultivating both indigenous and international grape varieties such as Montepulciano, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Leaders of Abruzzo Wine: “Villa Gemma”, “Castello di Semivicoli” and “Marina Cvetic”
“Villa Gemma”, “Castello di Semivicoli”, and “Marina Cvetic” are three flagship wine collections produced by the Masciarelli estate. These wines have received international recognition and consistently rank highly among wine critics and enthusiasts. The iconic “Villa Gemma”, made from Montepulciano grapes, has become one of the most acclaimed and sought-after Italian wines both domestically and internationally.
Marina Cvetic and the Future of Masciarelli Wines
Following the sudden passing of Gianni Masciarelli in 2008, the winery was taken over by his wife, winemaker Marina Cvetic. She continues her husband’s legacy, maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. Thanks to her dedication and vision, Masciarelli remains one of Italy’s most respected wineries, producing wines that seamlessly combine tradition with modern winemaking excellence.
