Red dry
ADVANCE WINE SALE – PRELIMINARY DATE: MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER 2025.
Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage Stellenbosch 2023 – a vibrant, modern South African red that showcases the craftsmanship of Kanonkop Estate and the expressive character of ‘Pinotage’. This wine was created to highlight the authenticity of South Africa’s signature grape while maintaining a perfect balance between brightness, approachability, and elegance.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby color with youthful violet hues. The bouquet reveals ripe cherries, raspberries, and plums, intertwined with subtle notes of chocolate, vanilla, tobacco, and licorice. Expressive yet refined, the aroma captures the pure, fruit-driven essence of ‘Pinotage’.
On the palate, the wine is juicy and medium-bodied, with supple tannins and lively acidity. The flavors strike a balance between the sweetness of red fruit and gentle oak spice, leading into a warm, lightly smoky, and persistent finish.
Fermentation takes place in open concrete fermenters using the traditional punch-down method to preserve the natural fruit intensity. After fermentation, the wine is aged for about 12 months in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, adding a subtle layer of texture and refined spice.
Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage 2023 captures the energy and warmth of Stellenbosch — a wine that is both expressive and easy to enjoy, combining sunny fruit, precise winemaking, and the vibrant soul of Pinotage.
Serve at 14-16°C with a juicy beef burger, turkey meatballs with mushroom sauce, or grilled ribs.
Kanonkop Winery is often referred to as South Africa’s Priemier Grand Cru Classe winery. The family winery, which has been handed down from generation to generation for more than 40 years, owns 100 hectares of vineyards on the slopes of Mount Simonsberg, where more than 50 years old Pinotage vines can be found. Here the productions are some of the best red wines in all of South Africa. Wine production is based on old traditions: most of the vineyards are not artificially irrigated, the wine is fermented in shallow wide concrete tanks and then matured in French oak barrels; and everything is done on the same farm.
