Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà 2020 is one of the most iconic single vineyard riserva wines from Produttori del Barbaresco, born in the legendary Rabajà vineyard, often considered one of the best in the entire Barbaresco area. This cru is famous for its southwest exposure, calcareous clay soils and the ability to grow grapes that make ‘Nebbiolo’ wines of exceptional concentration and longevity. The 2020 harvest is characterized by excellent fruit ripeness, energetic acidity and precise tannin structure.
The bouquet reveals ripe cherries, blackberries, dried roses and pomegranates, complemented by notes of licorice, tobacco, anise, crushed stone and delicate leather. As the wine opens in the glass, mineral nuances, graphite, balsamic and light herbal hints emerge, giving the aromas special depth.
The wine is powerful, but perfectly balanced. Concentrated red and dark berry fruitiness is balanced by bright acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins. On the palate, there are notes of cherries, blackberries, blood oranges, spices and mineral chalk, while the long finish leaves an elegant, intense and highly refined impression.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with approximately 28 days of maceration, and after malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for at least 30 months in large 25-50 hl oak barrels.
Serve at 16–18 °C. Recommended pairings: beef steaks, venison, braised veal, tagliatelle with truffles or boletus, slow-roasted lamb and long-aged hard cheeses.
In this vintage, the Rabajà was served last in a series of nine Riservas; that's because it shows the most structure and power over a very defined and sharp mouthfeel. The Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is streamlined and tight and a wine of enormous energy. The fruit is crunchy and tight with cassis and blackberry. A pretty mineral note defines Rabajà, giving it a chalky or powdery sensations on the close.
Produttori del Barbaresco, founded in 1958, now has 51 members and controls more than 100 hectares of premium Nebbiolo vineyards in Barbaresco. Each family is in full control of its land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with centuries old skill and dedication. The vinery produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a blend of Nebbiolo grapes harvested from different vineyards, and a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. In great vintages, nine single-vineyard Barbarescos are produced from nine classic premium sites within the Barbaresco village boundaries: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota, and Rio Sordo. These are the geographical names of sites where Nebbiolo grapes have always been cultivated. The name of the single-vineyards, the total number of bottles produced, and the name of the owners of the vineyards are marked on the labels. Produttori del Barbaresco, which vinifies only Nebbiolo grapes, produce around 550 000 bottles per year. In a good vintage they are divided among Barbaresco (50%), single vineyard Barbarescos (30%) and Nebbiolo Langhe (20%).
