Marc Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers 2024

129,00

Description

The embodiment of classic Burgundy elegance and precision. This white wine hails from the prestigious "Les Vergers" Premier Cru vineyard, situated on the gentle slopes of the Chassagne-Montrachet village.

In the glass, the wine shines with a clear, pale golden hue. The aromatic bouquet is highly refined and spring-like: dominated by acacia and hawthorn blossoms, harmoniously complemented by fresh notes of green apples, white peaches, and lemon zest. In the background, light hints of butter, toasted hazelnuts, and vanilla subtly unfold, testifying to masterful oak aging. On the palate, the wine impresses with impeccable balance. It is medium-bodied with a silky texture, yet exceptionally vibrant due to the integrated mineral acidity, leading to a long, fresh, and slightly saline finish.

The French name "Les Vergers" translates to "orchards," and this vineyard completely lives up to its name, yielding an especially aromatic and fruity harvest. The vines grow here on a perfectly sunlit slope, where the soil is a mix of clay and limestone, providing the wine with a firm mineral backbone.

The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand. At the winery, the fermentation of the juice and subsequent aging take place in French oak barrels (of which about 25–30% are new oak) for approximately 10–12 months. The regular stirring of the lees (French: bâtonnage) grants the beverage additional creaminess and volume while preserving the natural purity of the grapes.

Serving recommendations

We recommend serving it chilled to a temperature of 12–14 °C. This elegant wine pairs well with scallop carpaccio, white fish (cod, halibut) with a light butter and herb sauce, chicken breast, and soft, creamy cow’s milk cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.

About brand

If you want to experience the true spirit of Burgundy, it's worth remembering the name „Domaine Marc Morey & Fils“. This winery grew in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet village. Their history began in 1919, when Fernand Morey established his estate there after World War I. Today, the fourth generation – Sabina Mollard and her husband Bernard Mollard – lovingly continue the family traditions. Bernard Mollard is a true talent in his field, one of those winemakers who not only follow tradition but also bravely seek new paths to the hearts of wine lovers.

Wine Style: Every Bottle – A Unique Story

„Domaine Marc Morey & Fils“ wine is a subtle harmony of elegance, minerality, and complexity. Each bottle tells its vineyard's story, reflecting its unique character. They seem to whisper about natural processes, about minimal human intervention, which allows the true freshness of the grapes and the finest terroir nuances to shine through.

  • White wines, primarily made from the royal ‘Chardonnay’, stand out with their pronounced minerality, elegant acidity, and gentle aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits. Aging in oak barrels adds subtle notes of vanilla and toast.
  • Although white wines dominate here, Marc Morey also produces red wines from ‘Pinot Noir’ – an example of elegance and subtlety. Their soft tannins, red berry aromas, and light earthy finish create a pleasant and memorable experience.

Prestigious Vineyards: Where Uniqueness is Born

  • Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru: „Les Caillerets“, „Batard-Montrachet“, „Les Chenevottes“, „En Virondot“, „Morgeot“, „Les Vergers“. Each of these vineyards has its own identity, its unique soil and sun-kissed slopes, which bestow upon the wines an unforgettable character and complexity.
  • Saint-Aubin Premier Cru: „Charmois“, „Virondot“. These areas are also renowned for their quality and ability to convey terroir subtleties.
  • Puligny-Montrachet: „Champgain“, „Les Pucelles“. This is a true ‘Chardonnay’ paradise, where elegant and mineral wines are born.
  • Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru: One of Burgundy's most famous vineyards, like a crown, giving the wines exceptional power and aging potential.

When harvest time comes, grapes are picked by hand. Fermentation takes place in both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, blending old traditions with new possibilities.

Aging and Enjoyment: Time – Wine's Best Friend

„Domaine Marc Morey & Fils“ wines invite you to enjoy them at various moments in their life. They are pleasant and young, yet possess that magical ability to mature and evolve. White wines rest on lees in oak barrels for 10–12 months, while red wines age for up to 15 months.
