Red dry
Castelo di Volpaia Chianti Classico 2023 is an elegant, fruity wine, but at the same time with structure and a more serious character. The high position of the vineyards in the Chianti hills helps to maintain the wine's careful acidity and clarity of aromas even in warmer years.
The light ruby-colored wine reveals aromas of strawberries, raspberries and soft spices. In the mouth, the wine is medium-weight, but elegant and delicate in character. Cherry accents stand out in the aftertaste.
The wine is made from organically grown ‘Sangiovese’ grapes, which are hand-picked in vineyards with sandstone, sand and silt soils typical of the Chianti Classico region. After harvesting, vinification is carried out in thermoregulated steel tanks.
The vineyard is located at an altitude of approximately 610 meters above sea level, making this farm one of the highest in the Chianti region. The wine is born in the complex of the 11th-century historic village of Volpaia, which belongs to the commune of Radda in Chianti, and is aged for 12-18 months in both large and small French oak barrels.
We recommend serving at a temperature of 16–18 °C with pasta with tomato and meat sauce, lasagna, or beef tenderloin steak.
"Castello di Volpaia" is more than just vineyards and a farm – it's the historic residence of the Della Volpaia family of Florence, a dynasty of artists and builders who once created armillary spheres and sundials. Lorenzo, a friend of Leonardo da Vinci, who created an impressive clock for Florence's Palazzo Vecchio, was a particularly prominent member.
Today, "Castello di Volpaia" belongs to the Mascheroni Stianti family, who are dedicated to ensuring that every restoration respects the original artistic heritage. Maintaining the traditions of the 11th century, the castle and the surrounding village remain closely linked to the production of high-quality wine and olive oil. The unique terroir of the Volpaia area, located in the prestigious Chianti Classico region, gives the wines their distinctive character. The winery owns 360 hectares of vineyards, which are farmed according to strict organic farming principles, emphasizing the harmony between nature and man. "Castello di Volpaia" is undoubtedly considered a super classic Italian wine producer, and almost all of their red wines are made from Tuscany's primary grape variety, ‘Sangiovese’.
