Fortified wine sweet
Boal aged in French oak casks for over 10 years by the Canteiro method. For this blend we selected wines from our warehouses with stable temperatures year round, originating well balanced wines in sugar and acidity. Bright gold colour. Scents of oily nuts, caramel, figs, woody and iodine touch. Smooth honeyed palate, caramelized nutty flavours. Excellent acidity in the spicy fresh finish.
Total sugar: 90 g/l
Serve at 12-14 °C with Christmas pudding, foie gras, chocolate, crystallized fruits and cheese.
Wines in this blend are 10- to 14-years old on average. It is a blend from two warehouses, the cooler Câmara de Lobos being gentler and more aromatic, and the warehouse in São Martinho being more concentrated through higher evaporation levels whilst in Canteiro . There's an almost ruby core to the light tawny colour. It is immediately very complex, with notes of walnut and rich fruit-cake, and again that hint of cappuccino. On the palate there is plum fruit and a cool orangy note. Plenty of depth pushes through on the mid-palate, with chocolate and spice - a terrifically long, spicy, warming finish.
Vinhos Barbeito was founded in 1946 by Mário Barbeito de Vasconcelos and has since then always been run by members family. Nature plays an important role in the production of their wines. They take advantage of the fact that they are aged in three distinct warehouses, all with different climatic characteristics and different sun exposers. This fact enables them to obtain an enormous variety of wines aged by the Canteiro method. All of these characteristics contribute to Barbeito's unique style: long and fresh acidity after taste.
