Folgorosa was born in 1711, when an estate was established there by the Biker Correia family. Since then it has always been dedicated to the production of award winning wine. António Macieira, heir to the property at the beginning of the 20th century, was a very active politician - minister, parliamentarian and even President of Parliament - but he was also a very passionate owner of the Quinta. He visited her frequently, closely following the work in the vineyards and the winery, having acquired several neighboring properties and planting new vineyards. In addition, he hired Ernesto Korrodi, one of the most famous architects of that time, to design the new house, built in 1910. 1980 was another important date in the life of Quinta da Folgorosa, since it is the harvest of the first red wine here bottled, obtained from a batch of several traditional regional grape varieties. From the following harvest, 1981, the first bottled white wine came out. Today, a new phase is underway, with an increase in cultivated area and production capacity, in addition to commercial development in several new markets.
