Derenoncourt is now considered by many as the most sensitive winemaker in the whole of Bordeaux. He is a fervent partisan of little intervention in the vine to give the nature the opportunity to express its best potential.
He is working to achieve his ultimate goal of the vine regulating itself with minimal human intervention.
In late 2009, Derenoncourt released his first California wine, Derenoncourt California, a project started in 2006. The 2006 vintage of Derenoncourt California features five single-vineyard wines, one of which is a Napa Valley Merlot from Stagecoach Vineyard.
Derenoncourt's Merlot Stagecoach Vineyard is laced with plums, espresso, grilled herbs, cloves, mocha, new leather and melted road tar. Here, too, the tannins are impressive, but at the same time the Merlot remains expressive, complex and full of the personality of this mountain location.
A dense and beautiful red with dark chocolate, violet and berry character. Full body, velvety tannins. Fresh and long on the finish. One of the best merlots in Napa.
