The soil structure of this Grand Cru is essentially made up of Oligocene conglomerates and lattorfian interbedded marl. This wine comes from two very old vineyards located in the middle of the Grand Cru (average age of the vines 65 years). Fermentations are very slow, and the wines spend a minimum of 6 months on the total lees. The wines are bottled between 12 and 24 months after the harvest. Bright gold colour. The nose shows big flavours, not shy at all and it announces a nice ripeness and concentration on the palate. There is a mix of ripe exotic fruits and delicate flowers on the palate, but also big unmistakable limestone characteristic in terms of spices and minerals. This is a rich wine that shows a firm structure where tannins and sweetness play together. Very long finish, velvety, not too sweet at all, built to age!

Serving recommendations

Serve at 12-14 °C with Chinese dumplings, Vietnamese dishes or with desserts.

There’s nothing obvious about this intensely spicy gewurz. In fact, studying the aromas is like solving an intricate puzzle. Very powerful and creamy with succulent tropical-fruit character, the bold minerality balancing the touch of sweetness. The palate is no less intriguing, thanks to the cool depths that are ever more revealed on the very refined finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Domaine Zind Humbrecht today comprises of 40 hectares of vines, spread out over an array of different terroirs in the geological patchwork which is the Alsatian wine region and birthplace of our noble grape varieties.
