Elegant and complex, this citrus-driven still Chardonnay is one of most awarded Gusbourne wines. It was named "top still wine" by WineGB in 2023.
The grapes comes from Boot Hill Vineyard. A south facing ancient escarpment in Appledore, Kent region. 100% whole bunch pressed. Fermentation at cellar temperature in barriques. The wine was aged fro 10 months in French oak, 20% new, 80% old.
Elegant and silky in texture with lemon zest, pineapple and sweet spices on the palate and a striking minerality on the finish.
Serve at 8-10 °C with any chicken based recipe, pork, prawn or veggie.
Notes of fresh hazelnut and subtle creaminess frame yellow, ripe stone fruit aromas on the nose, with just a hint of smoke. The palate also carries this oaky embrace, but is sprightly, bright, vivid and fresh at its core, as befits an English Chardonnay, despite the lovely ripe and smooth stone fruit notions. The finish pulls everything into focus, leaving you with a wonderfully brisk yet smooth wine that is striking and hits a beautiful balance. The finish reveals a touch of butter. Lovely now but will really gain from bottle age.
